Special Holiday Art Workshops

Spring Holiday Art Workshops this year will be at my art studio at Chapel Hill. It will be outdoor under roof for better ventilation under Covid-19 plan. The class will be up to only 5 students and it runs for 1.5 hours. We will be doing different things each day so please take a look at the schedule below.

Monday, 21 Sept 2020 - Swirly tie-dye t-shirt

Kids will learn the elements and principles of art in this project. Children will squeeze, gather, tie then use the bucket dipping technique making swirly t-shirt tie-dye. They will discover how some primary colour will turn into secondary colour when they finish the project.

Texture and colour will play a key role in this project. We will talk about how it affects the feeling of the painting and they will choose the style of painting. Children will learn the basic technique of acrylic painting. All beginners are welcome. This project will be done on a stretch canvas.

World-famous Pablo Picasso will be introduced in this class. His movement changed the art world and will be discussed in class. Children will try to make their self-portrait as expressive as possible. They will loosen the idea of an ideal image of themself to expressing how they feel.

Baby Koala is everybody's favourite. This cute fluffy animal will be drawn with soft pastel. But there is more to it than making it fluffy. Children will learn how to draw any animal look like a "baby" face and looking cute.

Friday, 25 Sept 2020 - Rustic Comfy Weaving

We'll make a comfortable weave. I will show how to weave step-by-step. Once the students have the idea of how the weaving is done, they will try themselves and continuously go on selecting their favourite materials. Through guidance, the students will feel comfortable weaving.

I will show students how to draw a turtle and explore some patterns to add more interest. They will etch a printing plate and then use printing ink and a brayer to print. They will learn how to pull successful prints.

Tuesday, 29 Sept 2020 - Silly Birdy Marionette

Using modelling clay, sticks, yarns and other embellishments, we will create a bird marionette.

The trick is to make the right balance using a variety of length of strings and size of clay to make the bird move easily.

Springtime tulip will be the focus subject to paint. Students have a choice of either making a tulip field or a single/couple of tulips. They will learn the basic of acrylic painting and layering techniques. 

Thursday, 1 Oct 2020 - My Tweety

Students will use both oil pastel and soft pastel to create a lovely bird. They will explore how to make a well-balanced composition when drawing a bird. The whole image will be soft. Children will explore the difference between oil and soft pastels.

Friday, 2 Oct 2020 - Octopus Journey

Using plasticine, students will create a Relief art. The topic will be Octopus on a long journey in the ocean. Lots of imagination is needed for creating the artwork to be interesting. Students will talk about what sort of other sea animals the octopus may encounter during his journey.
